Empty Train Waltz
SYNOPSIS
‘Empty Train Waltz’ was inspired by a dream of an old couple dancing in an empty train. Over the backdrop of various old landscape paintings from the public archive, this collaboration between Bennett Bay, Momo Film Co ,and Finding Pictures captures the essence of ‘Empty Train Waltz’ and brings it visually to life.
ABOUT DIRECTOR
Lim Jia Ying
Lim Jia Ying is an illustrator and animator based in Singapore. Her graduation film ‘Watermelon Please’ won Singapore Best Student Animation at Cartoons Underground and has screened at festivals including Singapore International Film Festival and Monstra Lisbon Animation Festival. Jia Ying is inspired by daily life and searches for meaning in the mundane through her work. She is passionate in experimenting visual styles of storytelling in film and hopes to create more work related to her culture.
Kris Ong
Kris Ong is a writer/director. Her short films and music videos have collectively screened at over 30 film festivals and platforms such as MTV Asia. Her latest short film Sunday, had its world premiere at the Palm Springs International ShortFest 2019.
In 2021, Kris was selected to participate in the first edition of Sundance Intensive Asia. Kris was the youngest participant at the Singapore International Film Festival’s Southeast Asian Film Lab in 2014, and a resident at the Yamagata Documentary Dojo in 2019. In 2020, she was featured in The Straits Times 30 under 30 - The Arts list for her work in Momo Film Co.
